Tsavo National Park is situated on Kenya’s southern border with Tanzania, located about 200km south east of Nairobi. The park is divided into two main national parks, namely Tsavo West and Tsavo East this park forms one of the world’s largest game sanctuaries. The East and West parks are separated by the Mombasa/Nairobi road, and both work nicely on a circuit with Mombasa. All of the Big Five are present, but wildlife densities are lower than in some of the more popular parks in Kenya. However, there is a good variety of wildlife, such as eastern black rhinoceros, hippopotamus, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard and lion. The park is also known for Mzima Springs – a series of natural springs and pools, famous for its hippo and crocodile populations Named after the Tsavo River which flows from west to east, the park is considered one of the world’s biodiversity strongholds.
